From dated to in-demand: a converted flat from 1901 that became an overnight Airbnb success.
When the owner of this flat got in touch, they were working abroad. The plan was simple: we’d renovate while they were away and completely reimagine the space.
The flat is in one of Glasgow’s most sought-after postcodes — a two-bedroom home set within a converted 1901 Drill Hall.
It had incredible bones: original features, huge windows, and a ton of character. But the layout felt disconnected, and the interiors hadn’t been touched in years.
It needed a reset.
Planning the new layout
We began by gutting the flat entirely. From there, we reworked the layout to suit modern living. The kitchen, dining, and living areas felt disjointed, so we opened things up and created a sociable, flowing space that felt welcoming and functional.
Installed a large island with hidden storage and integrated dishwasher
Extended the base cabinets and added generous worktop space
Added a proper dining area that connected the kitchen and living zones
Painted the living room a bold, deep blue to give it a moody, stylish focal point
The bathroom transformation
The bathroom needed a complete refresh, so we:
Removed the old bath and replaced it with a generous walk-in shower
Added underfloor heating, a heated mirror, and sleek new fittings
Chose matt black accessories and geometric tiles for a boutique hotel feel
Bedrooms with purpose
The bedrooms were given new life:
Brighter, more welcoming colour palettes
Soft lighting and layered styling
Converted a disused nook into a home office with statement historical windows — one of the flat’s standout features
The result?
We suggested letting the flat out as an Airbnb when the owner wasn’t in the country — and it became a surprisingly profitable venture.
Even better, we got the renovation done just in time for COP26, when accommodation in Glasgow was in massive demand. The flat was booked immediately — and at a premium.
It’s proof that the right renovation can do more than just look good.
It can turn a lived-in flat into a high-performing investment.
